Edgar Brasil
Edgar Brasil, born Edgar Hauschildt (June 21, 1902 – April 1, 1954) was a German-born Brazilian cinematographer. He worked on more than 50 productions during his career. Edgar Brasil's career focused primarily on studio cinema. Therefore, at each company he worked for, he encountered different resources and developed different types of cinema. While at Cinédia, he developed a style very similar to Hollywood, with elements and features of Art Deco cinema, moving toward classical cinematography. At Atlântida, due to technical limitations, Edgar had to make more basic and restrained films. It was at Vera Cruz and Kino Filmes that Brasil returned to studio work creatively, once again influenced by North American cinema, through expressionist lighting reminiscent of Hollywood film noir.
