Heorhii Fomin
Heorhii Fomin was a Ukrainian film director, writer, and journalist. Born in 1969 in Nizhny Tagil, he moved to Kyiv at the age of sixteen. In the 1990s, he wrote for the satirical magazine Blin. Fomin combined his work as a butcher with journalism. He was well acquainted with the criminal underworld and was known for his sharp, dark humor — a hallmark of his creative style.
Fomin studied in the film directing workshop of Yurii Illienko and, in 1998, defended his diploma film The Elevator Operator. He later worked as Illienko’s assistant on A Prayer for Hetman Mazepa.
Throughout his life, Fomin published in various magazines and took part in numerous projects in both theater and cinema. His feature-length directorial debut, September, was released posthumously in 2023. Heorhii Fomin passed away in 2021.
